A CRASH on the Prince of Wales Bridge is causing tailbacks and delays along the M4 around Newport.

One lane is closed in both directions following the accident between J22 M49 and J23 M48. There is said to be a large amount of debris on the carriageway.

The crash is adding to long delays around Newport, not helped by the Easter traffic as people make their escapes for the long weekend.

South Wales Argus:

There is heavier than normal traffic on the M4 Westbound between J23A A4810 (Magor Services) and J26 A4051 (Malpas Road), and slow traffic on M4 Eastbound from J28 A48 (Tredegar Park) to J26 A4051 (Malpas Road).

A spokesman for Gwent Police confirmed that they and Avon and Somerset Police were currently at the scene, and there were thought to be no injuries.

"At approximately 3.20pm on Thursday 18th March 2019, Gwent Police was called to a road traffic collision at the Prince of Wales Bridge, M4, Westbound," they said.

"The collision involved a single vehicle, no injuries have been reported."

Officers are currently on the scene. Lane closures are currently in place on both Westbound and Eastbound carriages.
