MORE than 500 trees are to be planted in the lakeside woodland at Tredegar House.
For the past five years, improving the condition and biodiversity of the parkland’s trees has been a key priority of the National Trust’s woodland plan.
Head gardener Steve Morgans said: “After a lot of preparation it is fantastic to see the first of the new trees being planted. Wales is one of the least wooded countries in Europe and we are dedicated to taking care of our small but vital woodland and play our part in conserving these special places to ensure everyone can reap the benefits of being out and about in nature.”
The development has been funded with the support of the Trust’s major donors, as well as Machen Rotary Club, which purchased nearly 100 trees with funds raised in its Christmas float.
