POLICE have released a 41-year-old man under investigation after an alleged sexual assault on a woman.

The alleged assault happened in the early hours of Wednesday, April 10, at an address in Princess Street, Abertillery.

Police initially appealed to the public to help them locate a barefoot man seen walking down the street towards the junction of Cwm Cottage Road just after 1am on Wednesday 10th April 2019.

Five days later on Sunday, April 21, Gwent Police announced the had arrested a 41-year-old man from the Abertillery area on suspicion of trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence, and sexual assault on a female.

Today (Tuesday, April 23), investigating officers confirmed they had released the man under investigation.

Police confirmed the alleged victim was being supported by specialist officers.
