A MAN was assaulted and had his wallet stolen by a group of youths while he was walking along Newport's Corporation Road on Easter Sunday, Gwent Police said.

The victim was heading north on Corporation Road, near Lysaghts Park, when he was approached by four youths, the police said on Thursday in an appeal for information.

The man was pushed to the ground and had his wallet stolen from his pocket. He did not suffer any injuries.

His wallet contained cash, credit cards, and photographs of high sentimental value.

The incident happened at around 10.50pm on Easter Sunday (April 21).

Three of the youths involved were described as Asian – the other as white ­– and aged between 16 and 20 years old. One is believed to have been riding a bicycle.

Gwent Police have asked anyone with any information or dash-cam footage to call 101 quoting log 634 (21/4/19).
