THE new owner of a popular cheese cafe has revealed the site will re-open next month with exciting changes.

Holy Cheesus, in Bridge Street, Newport closed its doors back in February.

And despite the cafe having not officially re-opened that has not deterred the new owner Lawrence Tucker from revealing his “big plans”.

“I am really excited to be taking over Holy Cheesus,” said the Caerphilly resident.

“A lot of thought has gone into how I can make it an even better place to come to.

”most things will stay the same.

“I am excited to say that I plan to sell various coffees from here. I plan to call the coffees ‘Holy Water’. I think that will be very popular with customers. I also want to start selling fries.

“The other thing I have brought in is a landline. If people want to get in touch they can give us a call.”

The 27-year-old said that it had been a long desire of his to take over the business. And, having previously worked in his grandfather’s business, believes he has the acumen to make Holy Cheesus “even more popular”.

“I must say I was pretty gutted when I heard that Holy Cheesus had closed,” he said.

“I used to go there quite a lot because I really enjoy the food and atmosphere.

“When the possibility came up for me to take it over I knew I had to do it.

“Before Holy Cheesus, I had for many years worked for my family business. They run a fish and chip shop.

“I have a lot of experience from that and I think I can make Holy Cheesus even more popular.”

He added: “I would also like to thank the old owner, Vernon. He did a great job.”

The previous owner originally announced two months ago that the business would close, saying: “We have been overwhelmed by the support for our little cheesy venture, but we can no longer continue the adventure. We wish to thank everyone who has shown love for our business during our short time serving up melted cheese to the good people of Newport and beyond. Your faces will be what we’ll miss most of all.”

The business will now reopen on Tuesday. May 7 and its number is 01633 548741.
