TAKE a look at the busy Newport street, can you guess where it is? Send your answers to sarah.wigmore@gwent-wales.co.uk or write to Sarah Wigmore, South Wales Argus, Cardiff Road, Newport, NP20 3QN.

Last week's photograph is of the railway bridge on Caerleon Roda, Newport, facing toward's the city's cenotaph. Here's what you had to say about it:

Today looks like the Newport Bridge end of Shaftesbury Street. Remember driving under there to join Kingsway with the noticeable left hand lane under the bridge to filter at the lights to Caerleon/Chepstow Roads. That was back in 60's and has now changed so much. Those old buildings on each side have long gone, and there was the old Snake Pit Club for the jivers on the right. Good old days.

The photo in the weekend Argus of Saturday, April 20, is of the bridge in Maindee. Traffic following the lady would eventually lead to Clarence Place, the Coliseum and Odeon. Coming the other way would find Maindee school and the library. Happy Days.

The "now" photo is Caerleon Road railway bridge - I believe this particular bridge was erected in 1968, replacing and older bridge.

However, after a discussion with friends, we think the "then" photo may be in a different location. Possibly Shaftsbury St railway bridge, although one friends wondered if it was Wharf Road.

I think the Now and Then is the bridge coming from Maindee into the town centre, you pass Livingstone Place. Also in the area is the Clarence Club and a fish shop. There were toilets that shut down, Maindee Library and Maindee Police Station.
