Whether it’s a coffee you’re after, a nice cuppa tea, or even a refreshing beverage everybody loves a coffee shop. But where are the best independent coffee shops in Newport? Our reporter LEAH POWELL found out more

1. Bar Piazza, John Frost Square, Newport

Bar Piazza has been favoured by many Newportonians as the top coffee shop.

It’s been a part of the city centre for many years, serving up fresh produce and coffees at reasonable prices.

The family-run business was praised for ‘lovely, fantastic, friendly’ service with Jackie Smith saying: “Nothing is too much trouble.”

Coffee lovers are assured a good welcome, with Jo Chapman adding: “The staff will go out of their way to accommodate any requests from customers.”

Bar Piazza is open Monday to Saturday, from 9am to 5.30pm.

2. Rogue Fox Coffee House, Clytha Park Road

South Wales Argus:

Rogue Fox Coffee House also proved popular for a good brew.

As well as delicious beverages the venue also serves as an art gallery with regular live music.

Leon Digney said: “Rogue Fox Coffee House has fantastic, very friendly staff and the coffee is always amazing.”

Rogue Fox Coffee House is open 7am to 5pm on weekdays and 10am to 4pm on Saturdays.

3. Parc Pantry, Larch Grove

South Wales Argus:

Parc Pantry Malpas is another great place for sweet treats and a caffeine fix.

The venue serves up a range of thirst-quenching hot and cold drinks - including their signature smoothies - along with a tasty, varied menu which offers gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options.

Parc Pantry Malpas is open 8.30am to 4pm on weekdays, 9am to 4pm on Saturdays, and 10am to 2pm on Sundays.

4. The Vanilla Pod, Lakeside Drive, Duffryn

The Vanilla Pod was recommended, with the owner praised for her hard work in renovating it into as ‘bright vibrant’ place.

Naomi Williams said: “The atmosphere is relaxed, the service is impeccable, you can tell the staff get along and love working there. The food is lovely, highly recommended.”

The Vanilla Pod is open 8am to 5pm on weekdays, 9am to 3pm on Saturdays, and 10am to 2pm on Sundays.

5. Kettle Café, Commercial Street, Newport

Despite only opening last year, in December, Kettle Café has already made its mark with artisan-crafted drink and sumptuous snacks.

Mary Lockyer said: “The staff are always lovely and welcoming. There’s a children’s play area; the coffee comes in large cups and it’s a nice relaxing place.”

Kettle Café is open from 7.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Saturdays and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
