VOTING is opening for the prestigious Journalism Matters award next week - and the South Wales Argus is in the running for the prize.
The Argus has been shortlisted for its coverage of Newport City Council's decision to withdraw funding from a special needs support unit for children aged 0-19.
Pulling the funding from SenCom would have affected more than 600 disabled children in the city, and our coverage sparked a response that eventually led to a U-turn by the council.
By focussing for four months on how the change would affect the lives of children, carers, parents and SenCom staff, we were able to make a positive change.
