We have a very special Dog of the Week, and he’s looking for a very special forever home.

Otis arrived at Newport City Dogs Home about four weeks ago.

He was brought to the centre by someone who claimed to have found him.

The moment the ‘finder’ left the premises Otis began to shake, and had a very distressing panic attack when he was put into his kennel.

He was completely heartbroken at being abandoned by his owner. He suffered human company with quiet compliance, but wouldn’t eat, and he just couldn’t be persuaded to take even the smallest pleasure in life.

Otis was then placed in foster care.

He has now spent two weeks in his temporary home, and his lovely fosterer is helping him overcome his fear and distrust.

She said: “Otis is a bright and very affectionate little dog. He has already made enormous strides towards overcoming his fear and anxiety.

“He has had a tough time and has been badly let down, but every fibre in his body is still clearly crying out for someone special to love forever and cuddle up to.

“He walks well on a lead and is steadily becoming more confident and relaxed in new situations.

“He doesn’t like to be crowded or overwhelmed with attention from people he doesn’t know, and he will sometimes be fearful if he sees other dogs approaching him.”

Otis needs a patient and gentle family to help him continue gaining in confidence.
