MORE THAN 400 runners took part in the Gwent Wildlife Trust’s Race for Wildlife yesterday.

Runners of all ages turned out for the annual race, which aims to raise money to help Gwent Wildlife Trust protect and improve places for wildlife.

Starting and finishing at Undy Athletic Football Club, the race took runners along the quiet lanes on the Gwent Levels between Chepstow and Newport.

GWT’s Race Director Robert Magee previously said: “Over 200 people have registered but we still have places for the Race for Wildlife in both the 10K and 1K.

“Those who take part in Race for Wildlife will be immersed in the glorious Gwent Levels countryside during our flat and fun annual event. This year, we’re asking runners to raise sponsorship in aid of our Bridewell Appeal to help our efforts to buy and create a new nature reserve on the Gwent Levels, more info here www.gwentwildlife.org/appeal

Last year we raised just under £5,000 through the event and this year we’re hoping to raise even more.”

The day also held a 1K Family Fun Run and a 100m dash for children, face painting and other family activities, as part of their Race for Wildlife event.
