Undy & Magor (182-6) beat Whitchurch-Heath 2nds (180 all out) by 4 wickets

A THREE-wicket blitz by young Ollie Smith set up a fine win for Undy & Magor at Mill Lane on Saturday, writes Bob Cypher.

Ollie removed both Whitchurch-Heath openers for nine and zero respectively and ended with figures of 4-24 with three maidens in his nine-over spell.

However, U&M were made to work for victory as the visitors’ Paul Bennett made 70 before Luke Farley caught him off Paul Smith’s bowling.

More wickets fell for single-figure scores before Tom Salmon (31) and Adam White (20) offered late resistance.

Other bowling figures included 2-29 and one maiden for Richard Hudson.

In their reply, U&M openers Harry James and Arjun Calidas put on 50 before both fell to Adam White’s bowling, but Farley (14), Luke Boast (26) and Josh James (19) steadied the ship, leaving Steve Hepple to make a fine unbeaten 34 to steer them home.

“Ollie got us off to a flyer with three wickets in his first two overs,” skipper Harry James said later.

“They were 50-5 at one point but a good partnership of 70 made it look as though a total of around 200 was looking likely.

“But some supreme bowling saw them all out for 180.

“There were lots of good contributions but Steve Hepple’s display stands out.

“It was our fifth win on the bounce as we travel to Radyr Seconds next week!”
