THE recent spell of hot weather certainly hasn’t halted winning ways for Welsh jockeys and trainers.

Tim Vaughan made a winning trip to Cartmel last week with Champagne Chaser and Canton Prince who both won, giving the trainer and champion jockey Richard Johnson a double.

Also scoring success in Cartmel was James and Peter Bowen to win with Dr Robin, who was winning for the third time in a row this season.

Chepstow’s racecourse ambassador Richard Johnson has certainly been enjoying riding in Southwell recently, having 5 winners out of 7 rides there last week. He has ridden 13 winners in the last two weeks, which puts him on 47 winners for the season and 15 ahead of his nearest rival Harry Skelton.

On the flat, Chepstow-based trainer David Evans enjoyed success in Chepstow on Friday night where his Amor Fati took the first race of the meeting, providing jockey Rossa Ryan with a double of the evening; the other winner was in the second race for Richard Hannon in the name of Malvern, who was making his racecourse debut and looks a nice prospect for the future.

Last Friday evening saw the return of the popular Caribbean Night where Trenchtown Experience performed after racing to large crowds. It was a great evening and the warm weather certainly added to the tropical theme.

Chepstow’s next big race meeting is on Monday, 26th August where it is our Big Family Day. This year we have plenty of entertainment on site to suit the whole family. The two main feature entertainments on the day will be the Dinosaur displays and the funfair. The dinosaurs will be roaming on the back lawn where children can have the opportunity to meet them.

There will also be lots of other dinosaur activities in our Jurassic Marquee, such as giant dinosaur eggs, bones and ranger training. For the first time ever at Chepstow Racecourse, we are having a dinosaur race where a triceratops, t-rex and giant raptor will jump out of the flat stalls and race each other - it is an attraction not to be missed.

There will be more funfair rides than ever before, creating both a ‘Kids Village’ and ‘Teen Village’, so there definitely will be something for the entire family, including bungee trampolines, monster truck ride, speed booster, tea cups and much more.

We have other entertainment on site such as bouncy castles and face painters.
