UPDATE 9pm: GWENT Police have issued an appeal for information following what they are calling "disorder" in Pill this morning:

"At approximately 6.05am this morning , Gwent Police were called to Clarence Street in the Pill area of Newport, following a report of disorder.

"The incident allegedly involved a woman and two men, who were at the address and a man who had entered the property; we believe he was in possession of a bladed article.

"It was reported that during an altercation the armed man sustained injuries caused by the blade. The female victim was unharmed and we are currently investigating the whereabouts of the two men that left the property.

"A 30-year-old man, from the Gloucester area, was conveyed to the Royal Gwent Hospital. His injuries are not thought to be serious and has since been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and will interviewed at a later date.

"Officers are continuing to investigate all lines of inquiry to establish the circumstances around the incident.

"Detective Inspector Amanda Venn said: “We would like to urge the two men that we believe were at the address at the time to please contact Gwent Police, as we believe they may be able to help us with our enquiries.

"I’d ask for anyone who has any information that could help with our enquiries, to please call 101 quoting log 59 of 2/9/19. A SECTION of Clarence Street in Newport has been closed by police.

Residents reported seeing officers cordoning off the Pill street at the Potter Street end of the road.

Officers placed cones around a Silver BMW parked outside one of the houses within the cordon.

One resident, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: "The first we were aware of it was seeing it blocked off first thing this morning at about 8am or 9am.

"There were a lot of police officers present."

Gwent Police have confirmed some details and explained that they were called at 6.05am after reports of a 30-year-old man having received serious injuries.

He was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital and remains there, although his injuries are ot thought to be life-threatening.
