GREYHOUND WELFARE: Greyhound Welfare is holding a Spirit of Christmas Fair with a fun dog show on Saturday, November 3, at Risca Rugby Club.

All breeds are welcome and judging will begin at 2.30pm.

Table top sales are included, and will be run by local people and charities.

The fun show classes include fancy dress.

On Thursday, November 15, there will be a fashion show presented by Bon Marche.

In addition to this the hall hosts fortnightly armchair aerobics sessions on Tuesdays from 4.30pm, the next session is on November 13.

On Sunday, November 11, the Armistice Parade will meet in Railway Street at 10.15am and move off at 10.30am to the Cenotaph where there will be a service.

Afterwards, marchers will return to Railway Street and refreshments will be available in RWC Top Club.

The Salvation Army Band will accompany the parade.

CROSSKEYS COMMUNITY GROUP: Crosskeys Community Group meet at St Catherine's Church and will hold tea/coffee mornings every Tuesday from 10.30am to 12pm.

On Tuesday, October 30, Dr Grahame Osborne, our local historian and friend will enlighten us with his witty and interesting observations at 10.45am. Everyone welcome.

Bingo sessions run every Tuesday with doors opening at 2pm for a 2.30pm start. The snowball prize stands at £9 for October 30.

A reminder, for the second year in succession a service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, November 10, at 10.45am in the community garden at St Catherine's Church Crosskeys.

NEW LIFE IN CWMCARN: A new church is opening in Cwmcarn on Sunday, November 4.

New Life Christian Church will be meeting every week from this Sunday onwards at the OAP Hall and Welfare Association in Cwmcarn.

Pastor Phil Gibson, of the New Life church, said: "Our first meeting is at 10am on Sunday, November 4, and we will also have a meeting at 5.30pm.

"We are a family church so we deliberately arranged our meetings times to make them more accessible to people who don't usually come to church.

"We will be meeting at the OAP Hall and Welfare Association, 67 Newport Road, Cwmcarn - look out for our banner on the railings.

ENTERTAINMENT AT TLC CAFE: All are welcome to attend a fancy dress disco for under 12-year-olds at the cafe on Wednesday, October 31, from 5pm to 8pm.

Admission costs £1.50 per childwhile adults go free.

There will be prizes for the best costume and free refreshments available.

The event is sponsored and supported by TLC and TYTRA, they say it will be lots of fun.

The committee and all members of the TLC also wish to thank their volunteers for giving up their time to work in the cafe and make it a success.

Without them it would not be able to stay open.

Every Friday morning there is a councillor is available at the cafe to discuss any housing issues you may have. Please book in advance.

TLC is introducing a coffee morning on Thursday, November 1.

CRUMLIN WI: At this month's meeting a warm welcome was given to our guest speaker Sheila Harris, from Rosemont, California.

Mrs Harris had returned to Wales for the funeral of her father, Donald Howard, and agreed to talk to the WI about her life in America.

She had originally gone to America more than 20 years ago to work as a tour guide.

The members enjoyed the talk immensely and asked numerous questions about American life.

A vote of thanks was given by Marion Otter and the raffle was won by Lesley Jones.

Tea and biscuits were then served.
