Community safety wardens aim to tackle anti-social behaviour in Newport with increased daytime patrols

Newport City Council have made changes to the wardens' schedules, meaning from today, Monday, they will be more visible during daylight hours, following a number of reports of anti-social behaviour.

The wardens respond to complaints of anti-social behaviour, noise nuisance, littering and dog fouling.

They will be working from 1pm to 10pm seven days a week and will be patrolling areas of the city to address concerns raised by the public.

Complaints made to wardens at the end of a working shift will be addressed the following day.

Newport City Council’s cabinet member for licensing and regulation, Cllr Ray Truman, said it is important the wardens are visible, especially in the city centre.

“Our Community Safety Wardens do sterling work in responding to complaints from the public, especially if this involves anti-social behaviour, and we believe it is important they are seen by the public to give reassurance,” he said.

The council run service will also take complaints via email at incidents.wardens@newport.gov.uk, via phone on 01633 656656 from 8am to 6pm and after 6pm on 01633 656667.
