WRU Division 3B East

New Panteg 5 Chepstow 45

CHEPSTOW Firsts bounced back to the top of the table thanks to this fine bonus-point victory, writes Bob Cypher.

They flew out of the blocks and scored three quick tries by Andrew Morris, Tom Bradley and Brad Bamford, all converted by Sam L Thomas.

The visitors continued to dominate and were awarded two penalty tries from five-metre scrums, as New Panteg's pack struggled in vain to legally hold back Chepstow’s pack and the visitors went into the break 35-0 up.

The second half was a much more even affair with the home team having the lion's share of possession and territory, resulting in a try for their scrum half.

With play going from end to end, Chepstow took their chances and scored further tries from Sam L Thomas and Bradley's second.

“It was a good win in poor conditions,” Chepstow team manager Dean Thomas said later.

“The wet and muddy pitches don't suit our style of play, but it's encouraging to see that we can adapt and keep the game tight when needed.”

With no game for the First XV this Saturday, The Druids and Youth teams take centre stage, both with home games kicking off at 2.30pm.
