SEVERN Tunnel Ladies came away with three points after winning 4-2 at second from top Pontypridd LFC, writes Bob Cypher.

Tunnel’s player-manager Nat Rostron was delighted by her team’s performance.

“Pontypridd are a very solid, physical team but we showed great character and determination by digging in deep after going 1-0 down in the first five minutes.

“That could have mentally affected us hugely, especially as we had only 11 players and no subs, and with four already carrying injuries prior to kick off.

“But the ladies didn’t let their heads drop once, instead using it to kick-start their comeback and fight for the three points until the final whistle.

“Everyone worked as a team and covered every inch of grass, leaving everything they had out on the pitch.

“Our goals came from Taran Fitzgerald (2), Taylor Fitzgerald and Shauna Pentney.”

Tunnel’s victory was Pontypridd’s first defeat of the season but the local side are now joint 2nd with nine points and an identical +11 goal difference.

Cwmbran Celtic still head the table with 18 points but both Pontypridd and Tunnel have four games in hand on the leaders.
