A PRISON in Monmouthshire has been recognised as one of the cleanest prisons in England and Wales.
HMP Usk came out third, only behind HMP Altcourse and HMP Ashfield, in the ratings, which were conducted by Stuart Miller Solicitors.
The national information gathering, which looked after every prison in England and Wales, was based on factors rated most important by inmates.

The categories were split to show which prison was best at certain factors, including; visitor access, accommodation, food and cleanliness, overcrowding levels and healthcare.
Majad Habib, the senior partner at Stuart Miller Solicitors, said: “We wanted to understand the true state of the most renowned prisons in England and Wales.
"The data show that 67.59 per cent of inmates agreed that the public areas of the prison were kept clean at HMP Usk.
“When it comes to daily life at HMP Usk, the HM Chief Inspector of Prisons has highlighted in their report that ‘Prisoners live in a clean and decent environment and are aware of the rules and routines of the prison. They are provided with essential basic services, are consulted regularly and can apply for additional services and assistance. The complaints and redress processes are efficient and fair’."
