BLAENAVON’S World Heritage Day has been cancelled due to the current coronavirus outbreak.
The celebration on Saturday June 27 was set to mark the 20th anniversary of the town being awarded World Heritage status.
The annual celebrations usually draw thousands of people to the town, with stalls, activities and a parade through the town.

Gareth Davies, chairman of the Blaenavon World Heritage Day Committee, said: “It is with significant regret that I must announce that Blaenavon World Heritage Day 2020 is being cancelled.
“Given the current coronavirus crisis, uncertainty about the length and scope of any restrictions on public gatherings and the impact on the ability of public services to support events it is the sensible choice.

“A lot of preparation and work goes into organising the day, and the work delivered so far won’t be wasted.
“I look forward to better news in the coming months and to a 21st Birthday for Blaenavon World Heritage Site in 2021.”
