WHAT is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)?

Well, it’s a relatively recent marketing tool used by businesses far and wide to boost their website rankings on major search engines like Google or Bing.

It has a lot to do with the wording used in your website, and how that links with your business and industry.

This is to help search engines better answer a user’s query with the most relevant pages.

Different search engines will use different algorithms to bring up the best suited results.

Meta-tags, keywording and alt-text are all elements that can be updated in the back-end of websites to help with SEO.

However, these elements only scratch the surface with what can be done to boost website rankings on search engine results pages (SERPs).

It’s because there are so many variables (including meta-tags, keywording and alt-text) that need to be maintained and updated throughout a website to keep it optimised, it makes SEO a particularly time-consuming task for local businesses to upkeep.

Search Engine Optimisation offers a number of benefits.

With a search engine optimised website, it will organically rank higher for local searches in results pages, leading to an increase in website visits.

This increase is likely to be from people that are most relevant to a business, resulting in better quality leads that have a higher chance of converting into customers.

One thing to note here is that Search Engine Optimisation is not a one-and-done project.

In order to keep a website organically ranked as best as possible in search engines, content, directories, keywords, meta-tags etc. will need to be updated on a regular basis as the way audiences are using search is constantly changing, as well as search engine algorithms to best match results with queries.

Also, if your website needs a refresh, our SEO solutions are included as standard, to ensure potential customers have a seamless journey from finding your website through to converting into a customer.

South Wales Argus:

Thanks for taking the time to speak with us. Firstly, what exactly is Search Engine Optimisation?

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is a way of updating multiple areas of a business’s online profile to organically boost its website visibility in search engines.

What is updated for SEO?

There are honestly so many, but some of them include keywording, updating meta-tags, adding alt-text to images, and creating a Google My Business profile. For those that aren’t too sure about what some of these methods are, I’ll explain a bit more about them. Keywording is a method of researching key terms used by target audiences that relate to a business’s industry, and then using those terms on a clients’ website pages. Metatags can be added to the background of pages to help describe the content of each page. Alt-text is used to help describe the pictures used on websites, so if anyone viewing it is visually impaired, they can have the image described to them. And finally Google My Business allows businesses to have a profile on Google where reviews can be left and business details such as address and contact information, as well as their location on a map, are featured.

How does SEO help boost visibility for businesses?

SEO boosts visibility for businesses by giving them the tools to generate a higher website ranking organically on search engines. This will lead to more clicks from target customers, because searchers don’t really want to wade through page after page of search engine results, so the higher your website (or social media page), the higher the click rate is likely to be.

What would you say are the key benefits of the SEO solution?

Having a website optimised for search engines is never a bad thing. Obviously with a heightened search engine ranking, website clicks are likely to increase, which also means new leads and customers are likely to increase. With us though, we work with you and get to know your business to help create specific goals that match your needs, and can tailor our SEO solutions specifically for your business. We also get your business covered in the directories that matter to you, and keep you regularly updated on progress.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention?

Yes, a couple of extra points that are probably worth a mention; firstly, SEO isn’t a one-off project, consumer habits are constantly changing, and this is reflected in the way they use search engines to find products/ services they’re interested in. Secondly, if a business feels their website needs a bit of a refresh or a complete revamp, our SEO solutions are included as standard for any website solution.
