AN INDOOR tennis court will be built at a former military hospital in Pontypool if grant funding can be obtained.
Social club Panteg House in Griffithstown - which was used as a military hospital during the First World War - already has three snooker tables, various function rooms, a cricket field and a bowling green.
And, if grant funding can be obtained, the site will also benefit from an indoor tennis court.

Torfaen council approved plans on Monday, March 30, for an indoor tennis court on the site of the overgrown tennis court at the side of the building in Greenhill Road.
The Griffithstown social club was originally built for the owner of the Panteg steelworks but was eventually given over to its workers and their families.
The delegated decision report says: “Outline planning permission is sought for the erection of an indoor tennis facility comprising a large building to cover the existing courts and provide a year-round leisure facility for residents.
“The proposal, which is subject to various grant applications, is hoped to be used for other activities such as wheelchair sports and well-being classes as well as Lawn Tennis Association approved events.”
Changes were made to the application in order to get planning permission before the end of March, which is the deadline for the grant funding application.
