A NEWPORT woman is using the coronavirus lockdown to raise money for a local charity.

Caitilin O’Kelly from Caerleon will be going live on online streaming site Twitch tomorrow night, Wednesday, April 1, at 7.30pm to stream a pub quiz and raise money for Helping Care Team, Newport.

The 26-year-old said: “I came up with the idea because myself and a group of friends were saying how we missed socialising and doing a weekly pub quiz, so I volunteered and said I would host one for my close friends.

“But word got around and I ended up hosting for 30 people in the last one.”

The quizzes are going to be a weekly event while we are in lockdown, but the charity will be different.

On the reasoning behind fundraising for HCT, Ms O’Kelly said: “My mum occasionally donates food to Helping Care Team (HCT) and a few times, I have gone down with her to see it all in action, and frankly its heart-breaking seeing how people are living in Newport – especially through the winter months.

“I knew the money would be going to a good cause where people can get a hot meal a few times a week.”

Anyone who is interested in taking part in the quiz can join through the following link: https://www.twitch.tv/caitilinok and will be given a Google form to submit their answers. Donations can be sent to paypal.me/c8ok and the end amount will be told on the stream and sent directly to HCT.
