TORFAEN AM Lynne Neagle has called on the Welsh Government to resolve the issue of access to online shopping for people forced to self-isolate after the UK Government went ahead with an England-only scheme with supermarkets.

Ms Neagle, who took part in the first ever virtual meeting of a major UK democratic institution, used a question to the first minister to highlight that because supermarkets had used a UK government database of 1.5 million vulnerable shoppers in England, people in Wales had been unable to register for online delivery slots.

She said: "As the first minster knows, this has been raised with me many times by constituents because of the decision to go ahead on an England-only basis with a registration scheme for vulnerable shoppers."

Ms Neagle welcomed the announcement by Welsh Government that all people in Wales who receive a shielding letter encouraging them to self-isolate for 12 weeks will qualify for a free weekly food box.

She went on to push the first minister for clarity on whether help will be provided for people not in the extremely vulnerable group, but who could not, for whatever reason, manage to do their own shopping and did not qualify for a food parcel.

In response, first minister Mark Drakeford said: "In relation to online shopping, we are in discussions with supermarkets. Lesley Griffiths my colleague has had discussions with them this week. We go on doing that."
