A NEWPORT hospice charity is appealing for people to make donations in place of buying Easter eggs this year as the coronavirus lockdown begins to bite.

St David's Hospice Care, based in Malpas, needs to raise more than £8 million each year to provide the vital care that it does.

Some of the money is provided through government and National Lottery grants, however around 80 per cent is made up through donations and fundraisers.

"We understand that with everything going on, money is tight and times are uncertain," said Kris Broome, the charity's director of fundraising.

"As an 80 per cent self-funded charity we need your help now more than ever. Instead of buying Easter eggs this year why not get involved in our Easter appeal? ⁣

⁣"Instead of buying your loved one, colleague, friend an egg or card this year please donate to our cause."

St. David's Hospice Care provides free community-based hospice care to people with cancer or any other life threatening illness.

Your donation will help to ensure that St David's Hospice Care can continue to provide valuable palliative care for patients throughout Newport, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Torfaen and south and mid Powys.
