PRIME Minister Boris Johnson has issued a statement on his health after being taken into hospital last night.

Mr Johnson had been admitted to hospital on the advice of his doctor, with concerns over his "persistent" symptoms.

It is said to be a "precautionary step" taken on the advice of his doctor.

Now, Mr Johnson, who tested positive for the virus 10 days ago, has spoken for the first time since his admission, and has confirmed he is doing well and is in good spirits.

He also confirmed that he is continuing to lead Britain's coronavirus relief effort.

Speaking on Twitter this afternoon, he said: "Last night, on the advice of my doctor, I went into hospital for some routine tests as I’m still experiencing coronavirus symptoms.

"I’m in good spirits and keeping in touch with my team, as we work together to fight this virus and keep everyone safe.

"I’d like to say thank you to all the brilliant NHS staff taking care of me and others in this difficult time.

"You are the best of Britain. Stay safe everyone, and please remember to stay at home to protect the NHS and save lives."
