THE OWNER of Monmouth restaurant Indian Summer is offering a 50 per cent discount to critical workers for the duration of the coronavirus pandemic.

Shaz Miah, who has been at the forefront of a series of generous acts over the last few weeks, including delivering free meals for vulnerable people in Newport with the help of three local stores, explained the reasons for his new offer.

“What we did in Newport was fantastic to be a part of and I feel we made a real difference to people,” Mr Miah said. “But unfortunately giving away food for free for a long period is difficult for us to sustain.

“What I have now decided to do is make the offer to all critical workers of a 50 per cent discount on all main courses.”

The discount will be offered to all frontline NHS staff, paramedics, police and care workers – and ID must be provided on arrival at the restaurant when collecting the food.

“I’ve been in Monmouth for 20 years now, and the support I’ve received from the people here has been unbelievable, so as soon as I realised I could make a difference at this time I didn’t think twice,” Mr Miah added.

South Wales Argus:

“I watch the news every day and it hits home how exposed these key workers are. We need to do everything we can to help them in their hour of need, especially because we never know when we will need them.”

Mr Miah confirmed he will be looking to provide discounts to key workers such as council employees and those working in social services in the near future.
