POLICE are warning members of the public of a text message scam claiming the recipient has been fined for leaving their homes more than once.
Many across the country received a genuine 'Gov.uk coronavirus alert’ text message, informing the public of new rules in force to stay at home.

But now police have received reports of a second message appearing in the same thread, reading: "We would like to inform you that you have been recorded leaving your home on 3 occasions yesterday. A fine of £35 has been added to your Gov.uk account." It then provides a link to pay the fine - which is fake and may steal data.
Police have warned recipients not to click the link in this or any other message in which you do not recognise the sender.
