Their appointments follow the naming of Torfaen MP Nick Thomas-Symonds as the shadow home secretary.

Mr David said he was “very pleased" to have been asked to join the shadow cabinet.

"Once the Covid-19 crisis is behind us, Labour will have to put in a huge effort in developing its approach to a range of domestic and international issues, while holding the government to account," he said.

"The Middle East and North Africa face huge problems and Britain has a key role to play in helping to promote and secure peace and stability in the region. If coronavirus has taught us anything it is that we all live in a global community and what happens in one part of the world affects us all.”

Ms Morden said she was also "really pleased" to continue her work in the whips' office.

"We need a collective approach to [the coronavirus] crisis and a responsible opposition, supporting government when they are right and challenging when we believe they aren’t – and I look forward to playing my part in that."
