A GRAPHIC designer battling personal and mental health problems died from brain damage four days after he tried to hang himself at home.

Newport-born Warren Chapman’s death was recorded as a suicide following an inquest at the city’s coroner’s court.

The 50-year-old, from Abercarn, died last summer.

The senior coroner for Gwent, Caroline Saunders, said: “Warren Chapman suffered an acute decline in his mental health triggered by problems in his personal life.

“On 30 June 2019 he attempted to hang himself at his home address.

“He suffered a cardiac arrest which caused a lack of oxygen to the brain.

“Warren died as a result of the subsequent brain damage on 3 July 2019 at the Royal Gwent Hospital.”
