WELSH band Feeder have released a remake of the now iconic music video for their 2001 single Just A Day - the new version having been made with a lockdown twist to raise funds for the NHS.

Like the original, Just A Day 2 is comprised entirely of fan-made clips. However, this time things like toilet rolls and hand sanitiser are topical props.

The band released the video last night, along with a statement of thanks, which said: "There are countless fantastic charities supporting our health service during these testing times.

"Scrub + Face Protection Hub are manufacturing masks, scrubs and face visors to protect our incredible healthcare staff as a stopgap measure during these shortages.

"Masks for NHS Heroes are raising funds to provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to protect healthcare workers against the Coronavirus while caring for sick patients."

Back in 2001, Feeder were on the road supporting new album Echo Park.

Just A Day, originally a B-side, had been included in the soundtrack for what was at the time the biggest Playstation game of all time, Gran Turismo. It was decided to release the track as a single.

Frontman Grant Nicholas, from Pwllmeyric near Chepstow, said: “We were on tour supporting R.E.M. so it was a bit difficult finding time to shoot a video.

"The director said “I’ve got this idea. We thought it was absolutely bonkers.”

David Mould, director, said: "The budget was sufficiently low for me to feel free to offer up a 'risky' but fun idea to the band.

"Years before I'd made video of myself kind of dancing/moshing alone in my front room to Jane's Addiction's song Been Caught Stealing.

"I hoped the result would be a little cooler."

The band put a call out via their newly created website to fans asking them to send in VHS videos of them singing along to the track at home. Three weeks later one of the biggest videos of the early noughties was born.

Grant said:"The original video has become a classic, especially being in an era pre-YouTube and TikTok.

"We have always been against remaking it but after messages from fans in Italy we decided to revisit it again and highlight the plight of our own NHS and keyworkers.

"Thank you to everyone who sent in videos.

"We are incredibly grateful for your effort and support.

"Please keep safe and we hope you enjoy the 2020 remake of Just A Day."
