A COLLECTION service for essential bulky items, including household furniture and white goods, is to resume in Caerphilly county borough.

The service had been temporarily suspended by the council in response to social distancing requirements set as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.

Residents in the Caerphilly county borough will be able to book collections from today (Monday, May 4), with the service resuming next Monday, May 11.

To ensure the safety of residents and staff, additional measures have been introduced for the collection service.

Only priority / essential items can be collected, i.e. household furniture and white goods.

Two metres distance must always be maintained between residents and operatives.

Waste must be presented at the kerbside the night before or morning of their scheduled collection; no assisted collections will be offered.

If a member of the household has displayed / is displaying symptoms of coronavirus, residents are asked not to book a collection.

If a member of the household has been symptomatic but has completed the 14 day isolation period, items need to be cleansed prior to collection.

Councillor Nigel George, cabinet member for environment and neighbourhood services, said: “The suspension of some services, such as bulky item collections, was necessary in order to help protect everyone’s safety and prevent the spread of infection.

“We also understand, however, the inconvenience that this has caused for many residents.

“The council is continually monitoring and reviewing our practices in line with official guidance and resuming services as soon as it is assessed as safe to do so.”
