AN Abercarn woman is aiming to continue her beauty pageantry success despite the coronavirus pandemic putting a stop to much of her campaign.

Macie Dawkins, 20, is currently Miss Gwent and a finalist in the inaugural Miss PageantGirlUK.

One of the main things in the run-up to pageants is the fundraising element of the campaign. Miss Dawkins works closely with the Ronald McDonald House Charity and was due to appear at a number of events to help raise awareness and money for the cause.

The charity houses families of children in hospital all across the UK to allow them to be near to their child and have a bit more normality.

With events halted due to coronavirus, she is leading a new fundraising campaign - Zero to Hero.

“You can do anything that gets you active for 25 minutes, do something active for 25 days in a row or donate £25 to the charity - the cost of a room for a family for one night” said Miss Dawkins.

Despite the ongoing coronavirus restrictions, Miss Dawkins is excited for the pageant, whenever it takes place.

“It was due to be on July 20 but has been pushed back to August 8. Most of us entered some time ago so it has been a long time coming," she said.

“We are still waiting to see if it will go ahead, which we will find out closer to the time as the organisers want to ensure everyone’s safety and also give the full pageant experience.”

It is a pageant with a difference, as Miss Dawkins explained: “Miss PageantGirlUK is stripped back and all about fun. They accept married women and mothers, and there is an emphasis on building friendships and yourself.

“You have an interview with a panel of judges which is a friendly chat, there’s a jeans and t-shirt round which is great, especially at this time as people are struggling financially. There is also an evening wear round and the introduction round involves a group dance.”
