THE ruins of Clydach Ironworks can be found in a picturesque valley just off the A465 Heads of the Valleys Road near Gilwern.
The site dates back to 1793 and at its peak employed 1,350 people to exploit the area's iron ore, coal and limestone.
Brynmawr Historical Society has compiled a comprehensive history of the site and its picturesque surroundings which can be found at http://www.brynmawrhistoricalsociety.org.uk/clydach-ironworks/
Here are some pictures of the site, and its spectacular surroundings, from the Sout hWales Argus archive.
