YOUNG people in Gwent are being encouraged to join their local Air Training Corps to give them a sense of adventure and accomplishment.
There are a number of branches across the county, which meet twice a week for a taste of life in the air force.
Cadets aged between 13 and 17-years-old learn skills, take part in the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme and spend some weekends flying or shooting.
The area is home to the first ever ATC, the 210 1st Monmouthshire which now parades in Ralgan Barracks, Newport.
Members of Risca 212 Squadron were recently rewarded for their efforts.
Flight Sergeant Geraint White, 18 won a flying scholarship, achieved his blue gliding wings and has BTECs in aviation studies and public services.
Sgt Rhian Powe, 17, has her silver Duke of Edinburgh award and passes in first aid and food hygiene courses.
Commanding officer Flight Lieutenant Ian Powe said: "These are ordinary local youngsters who have the interest and want a step up."
