FIRE crews were called out to a "large incident" at Orb Electrical Steels just before 7.30am this morning.
Seven pumps and a number of 'special' crews were in attendance, South Wales Fire and Rescue confirmed.
Onlookers captured the scenes as thick smoke billowed in to the sky above the steelworks.

Speaking while the incident was ongoing, a South Wales Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said: "We are in attendance of a large incident in Newport at Orb Electrical Steel Works.
"We had a call at 7.24am.
"Seven pumps are in attendance and we have specials in attendance as well.
"We are still in attendance."
She later added: "We had a stop message at 10.46am."
The Fire Service said they still had a "minor attendance" at the scene conducting standard investigations into the fire.
There appears to be no injuries, the Fire Service spokeswoman added.

"We had a stop message at 10.46am," said a spokeswoman.
The Fire Service said they still had a "minor attendance" at the scene conducting standard investigations into the fire.
