A CHARITY has smashed their Easter egg collection target this year.

Charity and food bank, Raven House Trust - which is based in Newport - set out in February to collect enough eggs to deliver to local people in need.

The trust needed 500 eggs to go alongside the food parcels it delivers, plus hoped to deliver 2,000 eggs to care homes within the area.

They've collected at least 3,500 eggs - 1,000 more than the original target.

This means that Raven House Trust will be able to deliver Easter eggs to:

  • All the care homes in Newport (including Caerleon and Rogerstone).
  • All the care homes in Caldicot.
  • All the care homes in Chepstow.
  • Eight cares homes in Cwmbran - due to the trust exceeding their target.

The egg-stra eggs also mean the Trust will be dropping off treats for key NHS workers, including:

  • Two vaccination centres in Newport.
  • The coronavirus test centre in Newport.
  • The ambulance stations in Newport and Bassaleg.

The eggs were collected through the Trust working with local church groups, school and supermarkets - plus appeals on social media meant the general public have also chipped in.

Nine-year-old Ava Williams, from Newport, raised £115 by walking 56,000 steps in four days - she used the money to buy Easter eggs for the foodbank.
