A RESHUFFLE of the Welsh Government cabinet will see Vaughan Gething move from health to the economy.

Mark Drakeford was sworn in as First Minister earlier today and has now issued a reshuffling of Welsh Government's cabinet - in a surprise move Eluned Morgan has replaced Vaughan Gething as Wales' health minister.

Mr Gething - who had been in his previous post of Wales' health minister for five years - has been appointed as Wales' economy minister, replacing Ken Skates who is leaving the government.

Mr Skates had also been in his post for five years.

Announcing the decision, First Minister Mark Drakeford said: “Ken has been a real strength in Cabinet and a voice for North Wales. He will continue speaking up for North Wales and for Welsh Labour, but in a different role. We will miss his energy and passion.

“Vaughan becomes Economy Minister at a crucial point in time – the pandemic is not just a public health emergency but also an economic one.”

Jeremy Miles will be involved with education. Julie James has also been appointed to a new cabinet role as minister for climate change, with Lee Waters as her deputy.

The new cabinet is expected to meet soon to finalise Friday's coronavirus lockdown restrictions review.
