Nantoer Bridge in Llanidloes Road is undergoing extensive alterations.
A busy Newtown road is set to close tomorrow (Tuesday) while urgent footway widening works are carried out near Nantoer bridge.
Powys County Council said part of the A4811 Llanidloes Road between Lon Gerylli junction and Heol Vaynor junction will be closed from 7am to 6pm on Tuesday, May 18.
The official diversion is more than two miles, taking drivers through Heol Ashley on the Mochdre Industrial Estate, along Dolfor Road and then back onto Llanidloes Road at the Lidl traffic lights. The diversion will also apply in reverse.
Powys County Council said that access to properties within the restricted area will be maintained.
