What a lovely weekend for sitting out in the sun, listening to the blackbirds singing and the sparrows quarrelling amongst themselves.

But, hark what can these other noises be, the fastest flying pests on earth, well certainly on the A483 road. A Ducati Dragon Fly, a Triumph Termite, a Yellow Jacket Yamaha, a Honda Hover Fly and and many other makes of flying motor bikes, they appear at 0645 till dusk and always on the weekend if it’s fine.

How do they know when to come out ? Well it’s advertised on line as the best biking road from Newtown to Llandrindod Wells, but the A483 is also named as the only road outside London to make the overall UK top 10 most dangerous.

Bikes drive through our village at the correct speed of 50 miles per hour, but as soon as they leave the village some are breaking the speed limit, and I’m guessing over 80 miles an hour.

Obviously the speed some are doing is dangerous but the danger is increased this time of year, as a rural area with hay making happening there are more slow vehicles on the road, the bikers have no idea what is around the corner.

I wonder what these motor cyclists are thinking when they race at unacceptable speeds, they obviously know they are breaking the law, so what is it that makes them do it.

To me some of them are selfish morons who don’t give a fig for their life or others who might get caught up in situations that was not their fault.

I know that the police cannot patrol every mile of road but a presence at some parts could deter the racers, also perhaps the police could approach some of the bike clubs with a view to educating.

If there are any motor cyclists reading this please be more aware of your speed and your surroundings, ride safe and save lives.
