WORK will begin in the coming weeks to resurface 14 roads throughout Pontypool and Cwmbran.

Torfaen County Borough Council’s chief officer responsible for roads, has agreed on a contractor for the £445,600 resurfacing works.

The funding for the highways work was given approval via the council’s capital programme and Welsh Government’s grant programme.

Of the 14 roads in the resurfacing plans for 2021/22 just two – Richmond Place in Pontnewydd and Old Penygarn Road in Pontypool – will see the full length of the road resurfaced.

The rest will only have parts of the road resurfaced, with two sections of Newport Road in Llantarnam benefiting from resurfacing. 

Now the contractor has been appointed the council has said that work will begin in around two or three weeks.

Torfaen council are hopeful that it will all be completed before the end of 2021.

  • Bythway Road, Trevethin – Woodside Road to Central Drive
  • Penylan Way, Cwmbran – Bus stop above the football field to the roundabout
  • Leigh Road, Trevethin – Leigh Bungalow to Hillcrest
  • The Highway, Oakfield – Oakfield Road junction to South Road junction
  • Haden Street, Pontypool – Lane at the side of 24 Haden Street to High Street
  • Richmond Place, Pontnewydd – Full road
  • Kennard Place, Blaenavon – Link road from North Street to Gilchrist Thomas Industrial Estate
  • West Avenue, Griffithstown – Land to the rear of 54 to junction at Maple Road
  • Maple Crescent, Griffithstown – 54 Maple Road South to West Avenue Junction
  • Old Penygarn Road, Pontypool – Full road
  • Waterloo Road, Talywain – Manor Road junction to Pleasant View junction
  • Pentre Lane, Llantarnam – Canal crossing towards Cwmbran Drive overbridge
