ONE area of Newport has among the worst Covid rates in Wales, with a rate of more than 730.

Over the last seven days, Pill & Docks has recorded 65 coronavirus cases.

Between August 19 and August 25, the area has a Covid rate of 735 cases per 100,000 residents.

That puts it among the highest in Wales, with the top ten per cent of rates in the country above 602.6.

Another area of Gwent that falls into that top ten per cent is Risca West in Caerphilly.

During that seven day period, the area recorded 34 new cases at a rate of 665.9.

Elsewhere in Caerphilly, Bargoed was the other area of Gwent with a rate north of 500 - coming out at 583 cases per 100,000 residents.

While there were 19 areas across the region that had Covid rates above 400 between August 19 and August 25.
