A MAN has admitted carrying out a burglary and an attempted break-in while his victims were in their Newport homes.

Benjamin Mathews, 42, pleaded guilty to a raid at Gordon Street and an attempted burglary on Corporation Road on August 17.

He is due to be sentenced on September 24 after the case was adjourned.

The defendant, of Colston Place, Newport, was represented by Scott Bowen and the prosecution by Jason Howells.

Mathews was remanded in custody by Judge Catherine Richards after a hearing at Cardiff Crown Court.
