A CWMBRAN woman has released her first book written during lockdown.

Nicola John wrote her book called ‘The Weed Man’ as a way to release pent-up frustration at being unable to do her life-long passion of swimming during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns.

Mrs John said: “The walls were caving in and I must have been behaving like a woman possessed.

“My husband Gareth had enough and guided me into our office.

“He said: ‘Here’s a cool bottle of your favourite white wine. Now chill out and I don’t want to hear from you until you have written a feature for our local paper.’

“I thought I would relax and have an hour of peace and quiet. I saw on my swivel chair looking around at the library of books we had accumulated. My thoughts and creative juices began to flow.”

Six hours later and Mrs John had her first draft of The Weed Man.

“I called my husband and presented him with the copy. I said: ‘Here you go my darling, just a few thousand words for you to digest.’”

Her husband enjoyed the book, saying his wife had just written a bestseller.

The story focuses on a retired secret service agent who becomes bored with everyday life. He craves his days of assignments that saw him travel across the globe.

When strolling in his garden he came up with a way of easing this boredom – by cleaning weeds from his lawns. However, when he runs out of his favourite weedkiller and tries to go internet shopping, his life becomes much more complicated.

The Weed Man is available on Amazon, in Waterstones and all major bookstores. It is published by Pegasus Publishers.

Mrs John is also writing a second book to be released shortly.
