AN ARMED Forces fitness group have been helping children in south Wales get fit, improve teamwork and have fun during the summer of fun.

The Welsh Government funded the Summer of Fun, and these sessions were carried out by Forces Fitness.

The sessions took place in Newport, Barry, Llantwit Major, Swansea and Rhondda Cynon Taf.

South Wales Argus:

In Newport, the team of qualified military veterans provided 56 hours’ worth of sessions at 14 locations, working with Newport Live to bring the sessions to a total of 620 children.

In Barry, they held 60 sessions at Cadoxton School sports hall over 150 hours, with 1,320 children taking part.

The sessions were led by fitness qualified military veterans and serving soldiers and supported by the Army in Wales regional engagement team.

The sessions were based around health, wellbeing, building resilience and having fun.

A number of parents from across the sessions commented how their children enjoyed the sessions.

South Wales Argus:

One said: “My children thought this was the best thing ever. They even cried when I told them it was their last day. The staff were amazing and very good with children. My children got up early every morning and were like a bottle of pop, they couldn’t wait to go in.

“The sessions were fab and action packed. Every day there was something new to do. It was planned out carefully and it shows.”

“My two daughters have thoroughly enjoyed their week,” said another. “They’ve walked out with beaming smiles and been excited to go back each day.”

Another added: “Paul and Dan are both excellent instructors. Thanks for making the variety of fun activities. My son enjoyed every activity and every minute. He definitely will do it again.”
