A STALKER parked his caravan outside his ex-girlfriend’s home during a campaign of harassment that also saw him knock on her door 50 times a day.

Shaun McCarthy, 39, from Tredegar, made his ex’s life hell over the summer and would also bombard her with jealous text messages.

Jeffrey Jones, prosecuting, told Newport Crown Court how the stalking took place between June and July in the Blaenau Gwent area.

He said: “The defendant couldn’t take it that the relationship was at an end.

“He went up to her house 50 times a day, nearly every day.

“The defendant would send her abusive text messages accusing her of infidelity and he swore at her.

“He then got a caravan and parked it opposite her house. It was a form of mental abuse.”

McCarthy, of Dukestown Road, pleaded guilty to stalking.

The court was told he has a “history of amphetamine use”.

McCarthy, who was represented by Stephen Thomas, has 14 previous convictions for 22 offences, including harassment.

He was jailed for six weeks in July for driving whilst disqualified.

The court was asked to take into account McCarthy’s guilty plea.

The judge, Recorder Simon Mills, told the defendant: “Your behaviour has been appalling.”

McCarthy was jailed for 16 weeks and was made the subject of a restraining order for five years.

He must also pay a victim surcharge after his release from custody.
