THE much-anticipated Great Taste Awards winners for 2021 have been revealed - and a number of businesses across Newport, and the wider Gwent region have won big.
A key date on the food and drink calendar, the best products are showcased on an annual basis, after a robust judging process.
In what is described as the “world's largest and most trusted food and drink awards”, products which are put up for scrutiny are judged by experts.
It depends on the product, but everything is blind taste-tested by chefs, cooks, buyers, retailers, restaurateurs, food critics and writers.
The overall goal for businesses is simple: earn at least one Great Taste star.
A maximum of three are on offer, with this honour reserved for “extraordinarily tasty foods”. Only two per cent of products are said to receive this title.
Products branded “above and beyond delicious” are awarded two stars, while “food that delivers fantastic flavour” is given one star.
