A CUSTOMER at a Newport takeaway has claimed they were sold an undercooked chicken.

Kirk Brown has been a regular customer at Bina's Traditional Fish and Chips in Stow Hill for a number of years.

But he said, when he picked up some fried chicken from the takeaway on Wednesday, September 22, he was surprised to find it appeared to not have been cooked all the way through, with a pink colouring and "blood dripping from the meat."

Mr Brown said he called the business to complain, but the call was cut off.

"I left a review on their Facebook page, subsequently it got removed and I was banned from the page," he said.

"It could happen to someone like a child, pregnant women or elderly with worse consequences."

Although Mr Brown claimed the takeaway had recently changed ownership - Bina's has confirmed this is not the case.

He was offered a full refund or the same food free of charge.

A spokesman for Bina's said: "Two boxes of chicken were cooked that day and this is the only piece like this.

"I don't know why this happened, this hasn't happened in 20 years.

"Nobody else has complained and we have checked all the chicken left in the shop."

The spokesman added Bina's cook their chicken in batches one box at a time, but have received no other reports of undercooked food.

Bina's spokesman said: "Obviously something happened, that's why they (Mr Brown) complained.

"Because you have a whole box cooking at the same time, if something is wrong with one, there should be something wrong with others."

Mr Brown has contacted the Environmental Health Officer at Newport City Council, who have said they will inspect the premises in due course.

Bina's currently has a hygeine rating of five - the highest rating possible - and a rating of 5.46 out of six on just-eat.co.uk, based on 486 customer reviews.

It is unclear whether Mr Brown's meal was in fact undercooked. Although pink colouration is often considered a sign of undercooked meat, some chicken can retain the pink colouration after being fully cooked.
