ACROSS Newport, Gwent, and the rest of the UK, supply chains are encountering problems.

For a variety of reasons, businesses have had trouble getting their products from A to B - leading to empty shelves, and popular products in short supply.

One of the main causes for concern is the lack of HGV drivers in Britain.

For a variety of reasons, the number of people with licences to operate the large lorries has plummeted.

The exodus of workers to Europe after Brexit is one of the main reasons, but is by no means the only one.

Questionable infrastructure, long hours, and isolation have led to many drivers reconsidering their career choices in recent times, too.

But, while the shortage is a fairly significant problem, it also represents an opportunity for others.

At this time, there are a number of vacancies locally for HGV drivers, and in a bid to attract drivers, salaries and bonuses have increased a great deal in a short space of time.

Employment site Indeed shows that in the NP postcode area, there are 431 jobs with the HGV tag, as of Wednesday, September 29.

These jobs include supermarkets, and haulage firms among others.

And, while salaries vary, it is clear to see the need for drivers is such that many companies are prepared to pay for them.

Below, you can check out some of the HGV driver vacancies in our area.
