EVER fancied trying hot yoga? Now is your chance - with a studio hosting an free open weekend.

Hot Yoga Health – Newport’s first state-of-the-art hot yoga studio based on North Street – will host free classes and talks for people of all ages and abilities on Saturday, October 9, and Sunday, October 10.

Visitors can learn about hot yoga, which involves carrying out yoga poses in 40 degree heat and 40 per cent humidity, which detoxifies the body, increases metabolism, and improves muscle tone, flexibility, and strength.

Business owner, Suzie Latham, said: “The signature class Hot Classic is suitable for any age or ability and leaves the students generally feeling great.

“This series has ignited the enthusiasm and passion of a whole community of yoga lovers at Hot Yoga Health, many of whom have never previously practised yoga but kept coming back because of the amazing differences in their physical and mental health.”

Guests can also enjoy the grounding practice of Yin Yoga and learn about why mindfulness is the best workout for the brain.

Special offers and discounts will also be available during the open house, and the studio has a private car park for those driving.

Saturday, October 9:

  • 10.30am - 11.30am Hot Classic 60 Beginners 
  • 12.30pm - 1.30pm Inferno Hot Pilates Beginners 
  • 3.30pm - 4.30pm Mindfulness & Yin Yoga 90 mins

Sunday, October 10:

  • 10.30am - 11.30am Hot Classic 60 Beginners 
  • 12.30pm - 1.30pm Health Talk with Nutritionist: Understanding Hormones - Men & Women's Health 
  • 3pm - 4pm Yin Yoga 

Visitors need to bring their own yoga mat - or rent one for £3 at the studio - and large towel to put on the mat - as well as an additional towel if they plan to shower.

Visitors can also take the opportunity to look at the studio’s community garden, transformed with help from a Keep Wales Tidy grant.

Having secured Local Places for Nature project funding there are plans to create a food garden in collaboration with local primary schools.

Corporate days and wellbeing programmes are also available – throughout lockdown the studio worked with Newport City Homes and Western Power Distribution to support workers with yoga and mindfulness classes.
