A BLIND and brain-damaged rescue dog is living his best life on Wales' beaches this week.

Angus the lurcher suffered his cruel injuries when he was mistreated by his previous owners and feels unsafe in closed spaces.

But with the encouragement of his new loving owners, who adopted him from an animal shelter, he is able to find freedom and happiness in wide open spaces.

And where better than the beaches of Pembrokeshire, where Angus is enjoying himself all this week.

Freshwater West, Newgale, Freshwater East, Marloes and Tenby are amongst the sandy shores sampled by Angus and his owners Anne and Jon Ashmore

And videos of Angus frolicking and zooming on the sand are bringing delight to the followers of his Facebook page, Adorable Angus on Tour.

Anne said: "Angus can be quite scared and reactive in closed spaces as he doesn't feel safe, despite us trying to reassure him.

"We discovered that he absolutely loves the freedom that large beaches give him.

"Once he feels the sand between his toes he is transformed into a happy carefree little lad!

"We love the Pembrokeshire beaches because they are so large, expansive and open and he has the freedom to run as much as he wants without bumping into anything or anyone.

"This in turn gives him independence and a complete sense of freedom and utter joy which is so lovely and heartwarming to see.

"We always come on holiday out of school holidays and in quieter seasons to allow Angus to have the best holidays ever."

The couple, from Chesterfield in Derbyshire, are paying their third visit to Pembrokeshire and staying in Hundleton until Friday.

The owner of their holiday property, Liz Greenslade, has made Angus a special Welsh dragon bandana and she said: "Angus is a sweetheart and Anne and Jon are such a lovely couple. They have set about ensuring that he has the most wonderful life."
